MIT origami robot

This amazing little self-folding origami robot starts to bring so many sci-fi concepts one-step closer to reality.  It can walk, climb, move loads and swim! The untethered miniature origami robot is 1.7cm square and self-assembles itself. Powered by a small magnet and four electromagnetic coils, the robot can carry items twice its weight!

Researchers hope to arm the robot with additional sensors and possibly use it for medical purposes by setting it loose in your body.  The current version dissolves in acetone but future versions may do their job and then dissolve in water. See more over at IEEE or in this research paper.
