LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy wants to change the Metrocard swipe tone on every turnstile in every MTA station so that people passing through the turnstiles make an impromptu symphony as they enter the subway. It is brilliant ambiance and there is no barrier to participation since you have to swipe to get into the subway.
The cynic in me asks whether the MTA will have to change its terms and conditions so that everyone entering the subway has technically signed a release. If not, the MTA may have to pay royalties to every rider if the music gets released.
