Organic Structure Made From 2mm Thick Aluminum Strips

I can’t imagine the assembly instructions, but the fact that this flowing form is built solely from three layers of 2mm aluminum and rivet type fasteners is an amazing undertaking. It was commissioned by World Expo 2017 and it now has a permanent home in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Minima | Maxima is the latest creation from Marc Fornes / THEVERYMANY. They are known for creating this type of organic forms by leveraging computational design techniques. Sounds like they are taking the Gehry effect to the next level.

It seems from the video that some of the forms are pre-bent or have some shape to them and when the three layers are combined it brings about the beautiful sweeping form.  It reminds me the nail and yarn sculptures that use straight lines to create parabolic curves.

You can see more of their work here and more photos of this project on This is Colossal.
